Letter: Loss of faith in The Daily Union

To the Editor:

It has been a long ride, but it may be the time to bring it to an end. We have been a subscriber to The Daily Union for over 30 years. I have been the first one to say ''let's give it some more time.'' I have decided that enough is enough.

A short time ago, a train derailed in the city limits. Major story? This story brought about a two-inch column you could barely find. Yet, several area TV stations sent reporters. Your answer, go online to see pictures.

Another story, a suspected DUI driver runs from police, crashes his car on city streets and is killed despite a rescue attempt to free him from his car. This brought a three-inch column that one has to search to find.

A short time ago, there was a shooting at an apartment complex in the north part of the city near the airport. This was the latest in the last six or seven months of several shootings at this same apartment. This was on the radio, but never mentioned in the paper. Does seem like a dangerous place to live.

In sports, JC has a semi-pro football team. I think it was mentioned once, but never again that I saw. No results, no nothing.

A former JCHS runner qualified for the Olympics. Good story, but the Topeka paper told of fundraising so the runner's mother could attend the games. I might of missed it, but I never saw anything about the fundraiser.

All of this combined with the liberal agenda of this paper is almost too much to handle. A president and his Attorney General who are trying to eliminate our Constitutional rights by covering up the death of a border patrol agent and trying to eliminate our Second Amendment.

You do not even get the Senior Center calendar of events right most of the time.

I realize you probably will not publish this letter. After subscribing to this for over 30 years, I think it deserves consideration.

P.S. Don't even get me started on delivery of the paper and whatever you call that Thursday edition.

Editor's Note: The train derailment and the deadly accident appeared on the top of the front page in the left hand column with all the information we were able to obtain on both incidents. Other news organizations neither had nor provided any more information than we did. The coal train accident occurred on Wednesday afternoon, after our Thursday edition had already been printed. Although we had a reporter out there for the derailment, he was unable to get close enough and we were provided photos, which were posted on our website minutes after the crash and before any other news outlet. However, the photos were not of the quality to publish in the paper and by the time we printed again, the incident was two days old. The fundraiser information on the Olympic qualifier article was included within the story we published.
